Most people have heard about the inspired leadership of R’ Michel and Feige Twerski. What you might not have known is what a warm community of dedicated and growing people Milwaukee, Wisconsin is. Keep reading to find out more about what makes Milwaukee wonderful.

The Community:

The community, approximately 150 frum families, is a mix of mechanchim, balei batim, and balei teshuvos who are drawn to their rav, rebbetzin, and shul. They also benefit from affordable housing ($150,000 approximately a house !), free tuition (the government covers private schools like public school) and a close knit family structure. Like family, ‘Milwaukee’s got your back’ and we are there for you!

We have a Bikur Cholim and many gemachs, such as gowns, clothing for women and children, and uniforms, and even Chaveirim! Although we don’t have our own branch of Hatzolah, there are excellent doctors and hospitals in the area (the hospital is across the street from the shul) and friends who are “family” pitch in when the need arises!

The Food:

The most popular question we get is- what about kosher food? Well, the kosher food situation is not exactly 13th Ave… Quick Kosher is a very small store with basics- a line of kosher meat, chicken, dairy and other staples. But they can also make a special order for most things that you need. Metro Market is a local non Jewish grocery with a kosher section: some sushi, meat, dairy, fresh bakery and other kosher items.

The local Costco carries  kosher fish and meat as well. In the recent years the community has opened a fleishig deli at the judaica store run by Chabad and a dairy cafe run by Friendship Circle.  Additionally, there’s some community members you can order cakes and cookies or dairy dinners from privately. So the food is nothing like you are used to but it is all taken care of!

When in need of more then just the basics, head over to what locals call our ‘storage room’. They’re referring to Chicago, —it’s only an hour and a half away!

The Schooling:

Every Jewish community needs an education system. Milwaukee boasts a Yeshiva  Elementary Schlool for girls and boys (co-ed till second grade) and a high school for girls-Torah Academy for Milwaukee High School. Some boys leave Milwaukee for yeshiva and some stay and attend Yeshivas Ohr Yechezkel.  For any more information regarding Milwaukees ‘s Jewish community, The Congregation Beth Yehuda website is a comprehensive resource. You can find out all about the shul and its amenities.
