“Maaaa… What are we doing today?” We’re at that point in the year, where the kids are sun kissed and the summer days are coming to a close. What to do with those ragamuffin kids who happen to belong to us?
Whether your kids have been in camp or home, this week poses some specific challenges to all parents, everywhere. It’s that hectic no-camp-no-school-but-need-to-prepare-for-school-but-yom-tov-is-coming week. (Did you read that in full? Bravo!) What’s more, many attractions are closed or only open in a limited capacity. #2020 But no fear! Breath in and out. We’ve compiled an INCOMPLETE list for y’all. Incomplete in caps lock, because, hey, we could use all the help we can get on this! (We also have some littles pulling at our skirts and tapping at our computer keyboards.) Comment below with your suggestions of where to go!
NOTE: All attractions, no matter what type, have set requirements and restrictions in place due to COVID-19. Many attractions require advance reservations, and masks at all times. Call or check online prior to planning your trip!
ZOOS:
Many zoos have reopened. Zoos are a great option for a family trip. There’s something for everyone, generally. Just make sure to pack sunscreen and lots of drinks if going on a sunny day! Some zoos we found that are open are Prospect Park Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Bronx Zoo, Turtleback Zoo, Popcorn Zoo, White Post Farms, and plenty more!
Note: If the idea of masks and heat are a turn off for you, you might enjoy the Six Flags Great Adventure Safari with your family! You stay in the car for the duration of the visit, which might be a pro or a con depending on your family!
AMUSEMENT PARKS:
Again, many theme parks and amusement parks are open. Every family has different needs, depending on the ages of the children, or the preferences of ride type. Here’s a partial list, or if there is a specific park your family enjoys, check if they’re open! Land of Make Believe, Diggerland, Six Flags Great Adventure, Storybook Land, Dutch Wonderland, Hershey Park.
WATER PARKS:
Water parks are awesome! Depending on your children, you may think so, too! Here are some water parks we found that are open, both indoor and outdoor. Cascades Indoor Waterpark (limited), Great Wolf Lodge (call before), Mountain Creek.
PARKS:
At this time, nearly all state and city parks are open. There are hundreds of beautiful parks, and we won’t list them all! Go with a picnic lunch, some balls and frisbees, and enjoy the simple family time! The Highline is especially beautiful as a date night idea. Walk from one end to the other, and enjoy! Also, Governor’s Island is now open, call or check the website for more information!
What’s your family’s favorite way to spend their time? Let us know!

There is a 9/11 Memorial in Staten Island right near the SI Ferry. It’s really nice, has benches and is right off the water. There is also an outlet mall for your teens, and it’s right near the ferry terminal so you can catch a free boat ride to Manhattan. The only fee is to park in the lot and it’s not so expensive.
